BOOK COVER for KUOLLEET TYTÖT EIVÄT TANSSI, a YOUNG ADULT THRILLER

Kuolleet tytöt eivät tanssi (Dead Girls Don’t Dance) is the opening of a thriller series for young adults. 16-year-old Oona is forced to start high school without her friends when her family moves back to her childhood town of Pori. On her first day, Oona hears a horror story about a girl murdered in the school locker room and realizes that it is about her older sister Roosa, who died fourteen years ago. Oona has been told that Roosa committed suicide, but was there something shady about the death of her talented dancer sister?

The idea for the cover art came after sketching for an hour or so. I knew I wanted to visualize the end of innocence in a dramatic way, which would speak to the young adult audience. As Oona’s sister Roosa was a talented dancer and it’s also an essential part of the name of the novel, I came to think of a dancer figurine. Pared with a hand-drawn title, the end result is ominous in the same way as the premise of the story.
